Harbor View: your plan page

Harbor View shows where your plan stands, your retirement paycheck, your savings over time and what’s coming up. Open it at Harbor View. The numbers are estimates for information only, not advice.

Reading your result

Short answer: The big percent is the share of simulated futures in which your plan lasts to its final age. The buoy marks your goal.

Steps

  1. Open Harbor View.
  2. Look at the first card, “Let’s chart your course to retirement.”

What you’ll see / what it means

  • Setting chip, such as “Optimistic · Today’s dollars”: the market setting and dollars shown. It opens the Assumptions panel.
  • Status words: “Above your goal”, “Near your goal” or “Below your goal”. They compare your percent with your goal.
  • The percent, such as “88%” followed by “of futures last to 95”. PlanHarbor simulates many market futures. This is the share in which your plan lasts to that age.
  • Goal marker: a buoy on the bar, labeled “Your goal” with its percent.
  • The line under it. Above your goal, it shows your plan, such as “Retire at 66 and 64 · $8,000 a month”. Near or below it, the line names one change that reaches the goal:
    • “Retiring at 67 reaches your goal.” (For two people, it names who.)
    • “Spending $500 a month less reaches your goal.”
    • “A later retirement and a lower budget together can get you there.”

These sentences say what a change would do. They are not a suggestion.

If that didn’t work… “Your plan changed since these results.” means the result is out of date, so the line is hidden. Select “Update my plan”.

Your retirement paycheck and net worth

Short answer: “Your retirement paycheck” is what your plan pays each month in your “First full year retired”.

Steps

  1. On Harbor View, find “Your retirement paycheck”.

What you’ll see / what it means

  • A bar splits the amount into “Social Security and pensions” and “from savings”.
  • “Net worth today”, then net worth at retirement and at the end. The ages are the first person’s.
  • “Assets” and “Debts” sit under each. Large amounts are rounded.

If that didn’t work… “Shows after your plan’s first update.” means there’s no result yet. Select “Update my plan”.

Savings over time

Short answer: The chart shows your savings year by year across many futures.

Steps

  1. On Harbor View, find “Savings over time”.
  2. Move the slider under the chart, or drag the round marker on the age line.
  3. Let go. After a short pause, the new age is saved and your plan updates.

What you’ll see / what it means

  • “Typical future”: the solid line.
  • “Tough future (1 in 10)”: the dashed line. About 1 in 10 futures do this badly or worse.
  • “8 in 10 futures”: the light band where most futures land.
  • Markers: dashed lines for retirement, Social Security and “Mortgage paid off”.
  • The slider reads “Retire at 66”, or “Ann retires at 66” for a couple. It moves the first person’s age.
  • The numbers under the slider are the lowest and highest ages it offers.
  • While the plan updates, the slider stays still beside “Updating your plan…”. New numbers then appear by themselves.

If that didn’t work… If a move can’t be saved, the slider goes back and the result card says why.

What’s coming up

Short answer: A timeline marks each year when something happens in your plan with an anchor.

Steps

  1. On Harbor View, find “What’s coming up”.
  2. Hover over an anchor, tab to it, or tap it.

What you’ll see / what it means

  • The details show what happens, with everyone’s ages, such as “Bo’s Medicare starts” or “Required withdrawals start”.
  • Years too close to tell apart share one anchor, such as “2031–33”.
  • Press Escape, or tap elsewhere, to close the details.

If that didn’t work… “Nothing in the plan’s years ahead.” means no events fall in your plan’s years.

The Assumptions panel

Short answer: Try a market setting, inflation and your share in stocks here. Your plan changes only when you select “Update my plan”.

Steps

  1. Select the setting chip on the result card, or “Assumptions” in the menu.
  2. Under “Markets”, pick “Optimistic”, “Average” or “Pessimistic”. This also fills in its inflation.
  3. Change “Inflation” or “Share in stocks” if you like.
  4. Select “Update my plan”, or “Cancel”.

What you’ll see / what it means

  • “Your mix: about 9.70% a year before inflation.” is your mix’s yearly return under the saved setting.
  • “Your mix comes from your accounts.” means the share in stocks isn’t set here.
  • “Show amounts in” switches between “Today’s dollars” and “Future dollars”. It applies at once.
  • “See all assumptions ›” opens the full list.

If that didn’t work… “Update my plan” stays off until something changes. Inflation takes 0 to 10; share in stocks takes 0 to 100. “Your plan is updating now.” means an update is already running.

“Update my plan” and the loading symbol

Short answer: “Update my plan” recalculates your plan.

Steps

  1. On the result card, select “Update my plan”. It appears when your result is out of date or not made yet.

What you’ll see / what it means

  • The words say what is happening, such as “Updating your plan…”.
  • The propeller turns briefly, then rests. The words stay until the work is done.
  • With your device’s reduce motion setting on, it stands still.
  • The new numbers then appear by themselves.

If that didn’t work… A message under the button says what went wrong. If it keeps happening, contact support.

Example numbers

Short answer: “Based on example numbers.” means your plan uses sample figures, not yours.

Steps

  1. Select “Update yours” to enter your numbers in setup.
  2. Or, if the figures are already yours, select “These are my numbers”. The note then goes away.

If that didn’t work… If neither choice shows, your access is view only.

View-only access

Short answer: You can see the household’s plan but not change it.

What you’ll see / what it means

  • Your household in the menu says “View only”.
  • The retirement age slider doesn’t move.
  • In the Assumptions panel, only “Show amounts in” works.
  • “Update my plan”, “These are my numbers” and “Redo setup” don’t appear.

If that didn’t work… “This household doesn’t have a plan yet.” means no plan is set up. Ask the household’s owner.

The menu

Short answer: The menu on the left leads to every place in PlanHarbor.

Steps

  1. Select a place, such as “Harbor View”, “Accounts & holdings” or “Explore your future”.
  2. For your household, select its name at the bottom. Then pick another listed household, “Redo setup” or “Sign out”.

What you’ll see / what it means

  • “Income & benefits”, “Spending & goals”, “Family & legacy” and “Reports” show “Coming soon.”
  • “Search”, “Help”, “Settings” and “Ask PlanHarbor” are coming soon too.
  • The arrow at the top slides the menu to icons and back.
  • Your household shows “Main plan” or “View only”.
  • On a phone, select “Menu” in the top bar. Press Escape or the close button to close it.

If that didn’t work… Press Escape or select elsewhere to close the household list.

Explore your future

Short answer: This finds the earliest retirement ages at which your plan meets your goal.

Steps

  1. Open Explore your future.
  2. Select “Find my earliest safe ages”.

What you’ll see / what it means

  • “Takes about half an hour.” You can leave the page and come back.
  • A count shows how many searches are left today or this month.
  • The result lists, for each person, the earliest retirement age at which your plan meets your goal.
  • If no age in the search meets your goal, the page says so.

If that didn’t work… “None left today; more tomorrow.” means today’s searches are used. The button is off while your plan updates.

If the page won’t load

“This page didn’t load” usually means the connection dropped or PlanHarbor was just updated. Check your connection, then select “Try again”. If a number looks wrong, contact support with the screen and the time.
